An implant supported denture gives you all of the benefits of a typical denture but with improved hold.
The improved hold is gained through attachment to titanium implants (sometimes called screws or pins) which are surgically placed in the bone. There are many factors that can enhance or limit the results quality. They include:
- The number of implants
- The implant placement position
- The depth, height and quality of the bone
- The communication between the Surgeon and the Denturist
In a recent study published by McGill University’s dental department, it was concluded that the minimum standard of care for denture patients should include at least two implants on a lower denture to allow for adequate function. This trend is becoming more popular as both professionals and the public have become aware of the benefits of dental implants.
